BT extends global pay review system to include equal pay review with Cezanne Software

Telecommunications giant manages annual pay review for over 40,000 senior staff across Europe, the Americas and Asia Pacific region
BT, one of the world’s leading providers of communications solutions and services, has extended its implementation of Cezanne’s web-based Pay Review software solution to manage its annual Equal Pay Review. BT was already using Cezanne’s software to manage pay review for over 40,000 people across thirty countries, including Europe, America and Asia Pacific. Although Equal Pay Review is similar to the standard Pay Review process there are significant differences in the hierarchies which Cezanne has incorporated into the system. Since using Pay Review, BT has achieved greater transparency of the pay review process and saved time, freeing up HR staff to work on more strategic activities.
BT originally selected Cezanne Software’s solution, in having completed a comprehensive procurement process. Cezanne’s system manages all the information required to support pay review through a single, easy to use web-based application. Each year the system is reviewed and significant functionality is added to ensure that BT’s pay review process is consistently improved. For example, in 2007 BT extended the system to manage its long term incentive plan (LTIP). BT managers make recommendations on share incentive plans for senior people within the business. Previously this had been completed using spreadsheets.
According to Mark Gardner, Reward Specialist at BT; “Before we decided to purchase Cezanne’s Pay Review software, BT’s pay review process worldwide was managed using over 300 spreadsheets.
“The whole process was extremely complex, labour intensive and inefficient. We have a finite time to manage the review process, but Cezanne’s software makes reviewing managers’ jobs so much easier. It is a testament to Cezanne that year after year our massive pay review is a huge success.”
The pay review process starts in October and has to be finished in June to meet the payroll target. The whole process is workflow driven and Cezanne’s graphical Organisation Charting software (HRCharter) provides BT with the tools to build the hierarchy that starts the whole review process. The hierarchy enables managers to know who they are responsible for reviewing. Data is held in one place and updated in real-time, so that BT’s reward specialists have total visibility of progress, budget, allocation, over runs and review timelines.
Julie Windsor, Operations Director at Cezanne Software said; “BT’s review process is of high importance and time critical. It is the one process within HR that simply cannot fail – it always has to happen. From being a laborious and time-consuming collation of data, it has now become a transparent, automated process using Cezanne software.”
